Blando’s father was an Italian businessman named Salvatore Blando. Gabriel was born in Colombia but the family emigrated back to Florence, Italy, when he was six years old. He fought there as a partisan during WWII in 1943. He and his father returned to Colombia in January 1947, Whether Gabriel died there or returned to Italy is not known.
