Gábor Köves

Gábor Köves was a Hungarian professional tennis player who primarily competed in the doubles. He achieved a career-best doubles ranking of 79 in the world in October 1998. Köves represented Hungary at three Olympic Games.

Köves won four ATP doubles titles from 1995 to 2000 with his first victory coming in Genève with partner Clinton Ferreira of South Africa. During the mid-to-late 1990s he reached the second round in the doubles at all the Grand Slams apart from the Australian Open. He also reached the second round at the 1998 Wimbledon tournament in the mixed doubles. Köves competed in the doubles at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, 1996 Atlanta Olympics, and the 2000 Sydney Olympics. His best performance came at the Seoul Games when he and partner László Markovits reached the second round.

In 2003 Köves became a tennis coach, working with Petra Mandula and Ágnes Szávay. He was the coach of the Hungarian Olympic Team at the 2004 Athína Olympics and became the captain of Hungary’s Davis Cup team in 2016.
