Biography

Donald Stringer was captain of the Salle Nicklen three-man team that won the inter-Salle Birmingham Cup in 1957. The following year he reached the final pool of the British Sabre Championship and also represented England that year in the quadrangular tournament against Ireland, Wales, and Scotland at Edinburgh.

In 1959 Stringer beat Michael Straus in a play-off to win the Corble Cup, with fellow Olympians Sandy Leckie and Michael Amberg in third and fourth place. The following year, all four men were in the Great Britain team that contested the sabre event at the Roma Olympics.
