German fencer Johann Adam, affiliated with the Dresdener Fechtclub, was eliminated in the first round of the individual épée and sabre at the 1908 London Olympics. At Stockholm in 1912, he was again eliminated in the first round of the individual foil, but qualified for the semi-finals with the German sabre team, although they did not reach the final.
At the German Championships, Adam placed eighth with the sabre in 1913, fifth in 1914, and eighth in 1920. With Dresdener Fechtclub, he won the German Foil Team Championship in 1921.
