As a fencer with BBTE, Bertalan Dunay competed both in foil and sabre, and in 1920 won the Hungarian Sabre Championship. At the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, Dunay participated in both the individual foil and sabre events, without reaching either final. He later bacame head of the Dunay fencing dynasty, with his sons András and Pál, also being succesful fencers, with Pál competing at the 1936 and 1948 Olympics. Over the years, Bertalan Dunay held many official positions at both BBTE and the Hungarian Fencing Association. For 60 years he worked as a machine engineer at the Ganz Electric Factory and later as a technical chief consultant. He retired in 1957.
