György Rozgonyi achieved his first victories at the age of 15 as a competitor of the Nemzeti Vívó Club. He was successful in both foil and sabre. Until 1914, he competed in the colors of NVC. He continued fencing only in 1921, by now in the colors of the Vén Fiuk Vívó Club (Old Boys Fencing Club). In 1928, he took part at the Amsterdam Olympics, where he was the only Hungarian to reach the individual foil final and placed fifth with his team. In 1929, he won a bronze medal at the European Championship as a member of the Hungarian foil team. Rozgonyi was the eternal second. He won silver medal in individual foil fencing in the Hungarian championship eight times. He finally became a Hungarian champion in épée in 1931, 26 years after the beginning of his fencing career, although he competed in épée only for three months. After completing his career, he worked as a sports leader and international judge. After the 1936 Olympics, he became a member of the main jury of the World Fencing Championships and Olympic competitions.
