Biography

In his career, Gastone Darè was a fencer, official and politician. He won two sabre silver medals at the 1948 and 1952 Olympics, and a further ten medals at the World Championships. Between 1959-60, Darè was on the management committee of the Italian Fencing Federation alongside fellow Olympians Edoardo Mangiarotti and Renzo Nostini. In addition Darè was heavily involved in politics in the city of Mantova, where he was Socialist Party city councillor from 1951-64, and again from 1970-74. Between 1963-74 he was Senator of the Republic.
