Although he occasionally fenced foil, Domenico Pace was one of Italy’s premiere international sabre fencers during the 1950s. His biggest victory came at the inaugural 1951 Mediterranean Games, where he won the team sabre title alongside Roberto Ferrari, Mauro Racca, and the non-Olympians Idalgo Masetto and Ilio Niccolini. He then took silver in that event at the 1953 World Championships with Ferrari, Racca, Gastone Darè, Renzo Nostini, and Vincenzo Pinton. At the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, he was eliminated in the semi-finals alongside Ferrari, Darè, Mario Ravagnan, Giuseppe Comini, and Luigi Narduzzi. He retired from active competition shortly thereafter, but remained active in fencing into his 90s.
