Emilio Alonso was on the Spanish national basketball team that had to withdraw from the 1936 Berlin Olympics due to the Spanish civil war. He played for Real Madrid throughout his career, from 1935 to 1949. In 1935 Alonso helped Spain win a silver medal at the European Championships. He often played alongside his brother Pedro Alonso.
