Samuel Cole was on the fencing jury at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he served from 1917-20 in World War I, in which he was wounded in the leg. He enrolled at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) to study engineering, graduating in 1926 at age 35. Cole was on the fencing team at MIT and captained the team his senior year.
When World War II broke out, Cole re-enlisted in the Army and served from 1942-46, eventually reaching the rank of lieutenant-colonel. He died in May 1983 at age 92 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
