Aubrey Smith enjoyed his finest gymnastics moment as a member of the Swansea YMCA team that won the Adams Shield, as national team champions, for the first time in 1924. Smith’s team-mates that day were Stanley and Ernie Leigh, and Tom Hopkins. The four Swansea men all went to the Amsterdam Olympics that year as part of the 12-man GB squad, but Smith failed to make the final eight.
