Viktor Putyatin

Viktor Putyatin was a foil fencer who competed at the 1968 and 1972 Olympic Games, winning silver medals at both Games in the team foil event. His first international success came in 1965 when he won silver at the Universiade in individual foil. Putyatin won eight medals at the World Championships, with five gold medals – individual foil in 1967 and four team foil titles, in 1965-66 and 1969-70.

Putyatin later worked as a fencing coach and in sports management. In 1980 he was elected to the Executive Committee of the Fédération Internationale d’Escrime (FIE) and in 1991 he became president of the Fencing Federation of Ukraine. He later coached in Italy from 1992-2006 before returning to Ukraine, where he worked at Dynamovets CYSS from 2007-13.

Putyation graduated from the Kyiv State Institute of Physical Culture in 1964. He was later awarded the title of Honored Master of Sports of the USSR and was inducted into the FIE Hall of Fame in 2013.
