At the 1932 Olympics, Hugh Alessandroni was a member of the highly successful U.S. foil team which defeated France, throwing the final into a three-way tie between France, Italy and the U.S. that was decided by a series of barrage matches. Alessandroni later won the American Fencer’s League of America championship in foil individual in 1934 and 1936. A graduate of Columbia, he later represented the New York Fencers Club and shared in seven team national championships, six with the foil and one in three-weapon. He was also involved in perfecting the electronic scoring system used for the first time at the Berlin Games.
