Qian Chenghai was a quick guard who played on the Chinese national team for 10 years in the 1950s and 1960s. He then became China’s national team coach for 16 years. Qian led China to five consecutive Asian Championships from 1975 to 1983, and to two Asian Games gold medals in 1978 and 1986. He was later coach of the Mengzhou basketball team and founded the Quan Chenghai Basketball School. In 1977 Qian was elected vice-president of the FIBA World Coaches Association.
