Kallu Tuominen was coaching manager of the Finnish Olympic Committee from 1969 to 1992. Tuominen started in sports as a basketball player, with Tampereen Pyrinto from 1951-62, and also earned 11 caps with the Finnish national team. He also played league games in handball and football.
Tuominen started coaching while he was playing and was national team coach from 1955-69. He led the Finnish team at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and the 1967 European Championships. For his long service to Finnish sports, Tuominen was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award of the European Olympic Committees and the Finnish Sports Gala. He was also awarded the Finnish Cross of Merit in Sports Culture and was named to the Finnish Basketball Honorary Gallery and the Coaches’ Honorary Gallery.
