Javier Sánchez Vicario

Javier Sánchez Vicario was a Spanish tennis player who played professionally from 1986 to 2000. Sánchez achieved a career-best singles ranking of #23 in the world in June 1994, and a doubles ranking of #9 in the world in April 1990. His brother Emilio and his sister Arantxa were also both successful professional tennis players.

Sánchez began his career by winning the boys’ singles and doubles titles at the 1986 US Open. Primarily a doubles player, he went on to win 44 ATP doubles titles during his career, with his first victory coming in September 1987 in Madrid with partner Carlos Di Laura. Sánchez had several successful partnerships, including playing with Sergio Casal, Luis Lobo, and his brother Emilio.

At Grand Slams Sánchez reached the doubles quarter-finals at four tournaments apart from Wimbledon. He also reached the singles quarter-finals at the US Open in 1991 and 1996. He competed in the singles at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, losing to Paolo Canè in the second round.
