Biography

Egyptian football left winger Nabil Nosseir joined Zamalek SC’s youth section in 1954 and, five years later, began an eight-season tenure with the senior club. During that time he helped his team earn three Egyptian Premiere League titles (1960, 1964, and 1965) and two Egyptian Cups (1960 and 1962). Internationally he represented Egypt, competing as the United Arab Republic due to its brief (1958-1961) merger with Syria, at the 1960 and 1964 Summer Olympics. In the former, the team finished at the bottom of its group during the preliminary rounds and was eliminated, with Nossier participating in only one of the three matches. In the latter, the UAR squad survived to the semi-finals, where it overcame Ghana 5-1 to move on to the semi-finals. There it lost 0-6 to eventual gold medalists from Hungary and, in the bronze medal match, was defeated 1-3 by Germany. Nossier took part in one group match and the contest for third. After retiring from active competition, Nosseir took up positions in sports administration and training in his native country, in addition to coaching in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
