Al Trost

Alan Trost was a midfielder who played at St. Louis University, winning the Hermann Trophy in his junior and senior years. He also led St. Louis to the NCAA title both years, and was named MVP of the Final Four his senior year. Trost played for the US at the 1972 Olympics and then captained the US national team from 1974-78.

Professionally Trost played from 1973-80, starting with the St. Louis Stars of the North American Soccer League (NASL) in 1973, moving to the California Surf in 1978. He played his final year in the NASL with the Seattle Sounders. He played his final year of pro soccer with the New York Arrows of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL).

Trost then began a coaching career, coaching in the MISL from 1981-83. He returned to St. Louis, coaching at McCluer North High School and later at Parkway South High School, where he coached both the boys’ and girls’ teams. Trost was inducted into the St. Louis University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1994 and the US Soccer Hall of Fame in 2006.
