N. M. Smith played only doubles in the 1904 Olympic tournament. Smith did, however, play three non-Olympic, or demonstration, events during the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition. He competed in the Louisiana Purchase Open Singles, the World’s Fair Singles, and the World’s Fair Doubles, but won only one match, in the first round of the World’s Fair Doubles.
