Biography

Jaycie Phelps was one of the members of the “Magnificent Seven” female gymnasts who won the team title at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Phelps first competed internationally as a senior in 1994 when she made the US team for World Championships. Phelps was third in all-around at the 1995 Nationals and second in 1996, also placing third at the 1996 US Olympic Trials to make the team.

After the Olympics Phelps toured the US and gave exhibitions with her teammates. She stopped competing but came back in 1999 in an effort to make the 2000 Olympics, but when she failed to qualify for the Olympic Trials, she retired.

Phelps later married Brett McClure, a 2004 US Olympic gymnast, although they divorced in 2008. She owned and coached at the Jaycie Phelps Athletic Center in Greenfield, Indiana. Phelps was inducted into the US Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1998, along with the entire 1996 Magnificent Seven. In 2008 the team was also inducted into the US Olympic Hall of Fame.
