Biography

Bruno Duranti was an Italian basketball referee. By profession he worked at the University of Pisa as a laboratory technician. Duranti was a basketball player in his youth with the colors of CUS Pisa, Virtus Pisa, and Pontedera before he switched to rowing. He returned to basketball at age 27, and starting refereeing in 1968 under the guidance of Elio Luglini.

Domestically Duranti officiated 571 games between Serie A1 and Serie A2 from 1974-93, mostly alongside Giancarlo Vitolo. He went on to become an international referee in 1977, and officiated nearly 400 games, including at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, the 1982 World Championship in Colombia, a world military championship, five European championships, a Summer Universiade, an edition of the Mediterranean Games, three Pre-Olympic tournaments, a Goodwill Games, and a European women’s final. In 2011 he was inducted into the Italy Basket Hall of Fame with an early ceremony due to health conditions.
