Vittorio Ugolini

Vittorio Ugolini was an Italian basketball coach and referee who was born in Romania but lived most of his life in Bologna, where he coached the city team from 1934-39. He also coached the national team, along with Decio Scuri, at the 1937 European Championships in Riga (Latvia), where Italy lost the gold medal game against Lithuania by just one point (24-23).

As referee Ugolini officiated at the 1936 Berlin Olympics (at only 28) and in London 12 years later refereed the gold medal game between the USA and France. As of 2016, he is still the only Italian referee to have reached this milestone. Ugolini also devoted himself to football and for many years was secretary of Bologna F.C.
