Biography

Gerhard Dietrich was a member of East Germany’s men’s gymnastics team, winning the bronze medal in the team all-around event at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. Individually he placed 34th in the all-around. In 1966 and 1970 he also earned two bronze medals at the World Championships in the team event. In 1967 he won another three bronze medals at the Europeans – with the team, on vault, and pommelled horse. In 1966 and 1970 he also won East German titles on pommelled horse. By profession, Dietrich became a teacher and gymnastics coach, but after German reunification he became unemployed.
