Biography
Rainer Hanschke won an all-around bronze medal with the East German male gymnastics team at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. He failed to qualify for any of the apparatus finals, placing 28th in the individual all-around. At the 1974 Worlds he won his first team bronze medal in an international competition. In 1975 he earned his only national title.
Hanschke later became a graduate gymnast coach and started his career with SC Chemie Halle and SC Cottbus. After re-unification he was named chief national youth coach. From 1995-2002 he was chief national coach in Germany after which he was named regional chief coach of the German Gymnast Federation at Cottbus.
