Andreas Japtok was a member of the West German male gymnastics team that finished a respectable fourth at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. He also placed 17th in the individual all-around but missed the apparatus finals. He participated in five World Championships between 1978-89. He never won an individual national title.
As a sports physician, Japtok remained loyal to competitive sports. He took care of the squad and competitive athletes at the Olympic base in Hanover for more than 10 years. He also looked after the ice hockey players of the Hanover Indians and Hanover Scorpions, as well as the Bundesliga gymnastics team of the Lower Saxony. In 2004, he became the tour doctor of the entertainment show “Feuerwerk der Turnkunst”.
