Biography

Imre Gellért began his gymnastics career at Postás SE Budapest. In 1907, he finished second in the Hungarian Championship. He competed in his first Olympics in 1908, in the individual all-round event. After the Games, Gellért moved to MTK Budapest, and in 1909 and 1911-12 was the national individual all-round champion. He competed in the 1912 Stockholm Olympics and won a silver medal in the team competition. That same year, he graduated from the College of Applied Arts and, for a short while, worked as a private clerk, before emigrating to the United States in 1921, where he worked as a painter and graphic artist. He also worked in New York, Cleveland and Hollywood.
