Biography

Shuji Tsurumi participated in two Olympics and two World Championships. In both competitions he was on the first ever gold medal winning teams for Japan – at the 1960 Olympics and at the 1962 World Championships, which he helped to defend in 1964 and 1966, respectively. In individual events Tsurumi won silver in all-around at the 1964 Games as well as at the 1966 World Championships and won another three medals at the Olympics, with silver in 1964 on parallel bars and pommelled horse, having won bronze in the 1960 pommelled horse. In 2008 he was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
