Ferd Wirtz represented the club Société de Gymnastique from the capital’s district of Grund. At the first national trials in January 1912, he placed 11th. After the final trials in June, Behm was one of 16 gymnasts selected for the Olympics. At the Olympic Games in Stockholm, the team from Luxembourg including Wirtz placed fifth and last in the free system team event but missed bronze by less than one point in the European system team event. Like many gymnasts of the time, he was also active in track & field athletics. There is evidence that he took part in a local pole vault competition in 1909.
