Biography

Francisc Cociș started his gymnastics career with Avântul SE in his home county of Satu Mare. He attended primary school in his hometown before attending the College of Physical Education in București where he was a member of the Știința București gymnastics club. A member of the national team, he won multiple titles at the 1952 National Championships, and was chosen as a member of the Romanian Olympic team which eventually finished 20th overall at the Helsinki Olympics.

Graduating from the College of Physical Education in 1954, he joined Dinamo București the same year, where he worked until his retirement in 1987. There, he served in various capacities in the gymnastics department, and trained many future Olympic gymnasts, including Frederic Orendi, Anton Cadar and Gheorghe Păunescu. He also was involved in the sport as an international judge. Cociș was awarded a Medal of Sports Merit (class I) in 1968, and also the titles of master of sports and coach emeritus. He married Anica Ticu, a fellow gymnast who was active in the 1950s. Following his retirement, they continued to reside in București.
