Biography

Roland Hürzeler was a Swiss national champion gymnast who represented the Lucerne Citizens’ Gymnastics Club. Along with his athletic capability Hürzeler was known for his calm and likeable demeanour, which endeared him with the tabloids and magazines. He was part of the national team at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics where Switzerland finished in ninth place overall, with Hürzeler’s best individual performance coming in the parallel bars. At the 1970 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships held in Ljubljana Hürzeler was part of the Swiss team that finished in sixth place. A year later he won the bronze medal in the horizontal bars at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Madrid.
