Biography

Melchior Thalmann took up gymnastics with TV Oerlikon in 1940 and was on the Swiss national team from 1948-54. Thalmann competed at four major international tournaments during his career, winning a team all-around medal in each of them. Thalmann won team all-around gold at the 1950 World Championships, silvers at the 1948 and 1952 Olympics, and bronze at the 1954 World Championships. Individually, the best tournament for Thalmann was the 1950 World Championships, where he was 11th in individual all-around and was fourth on pommels and vault. Domestically Thalmann was the 1949 Swiss champion on horse vault.
