Martin Fischer was born in Germany, but immigrated to the United States and spent the rest of his life in Passaic, New Jersey. He was involved in gymnastics and had probably his most notable appearance at the 1904 St. Louis Olympics, representing the Passaic Turnverein that finished 10th in the team all-around. Individually, he was 94th in apparatus work and 100th in the all-around and field sports. He remained active in the sport into his 40s, competing in both the United States and Germany, and by career was a supervisor at Botany Mills for five decades. In his retirement, he owned a tavern.
