Although born in Louisville, Kentucky, Theodore Gross moved to Chicago as a youth and competed for the Turnverein Vorwärts team. Gross was superintendent of Chicago playgrounds for 44 years. In 1952, the Chicago Park District named one of the city’s parks in his honor, Gross Park.
