German-born gymnast Jacob Hergenhahn finished seventh with the Turnverein Vorwärts from Chicago at the 1904 St. Louis Olympics, and participated in three individual events. Hergenhahn was a German living in the US, who became a naturalized US citizen in 1924. It is debatable whether his nationality should be considered as German or American at the 1904 Olympics, but he is considered by the International Olympic Committee as a United States competitor, since he represented an American club. Hergenhahn later owned his own business in Chicago, American Platers Supply Company.
