Little is known definitively about George Mayer. We think he was probably born in Germany and lived in the same district of Chicago where the Chicago Central Turnverein was located, the club the Olympian represented in 1904. That George Mayer became a US citizen in 1900 as an underage youth, when his parents were naturalized. The Olympian George Mayer competed in the three individual all-around turnverein events, and the team all-around, in which he won a bronze medal. His best individual finish was fourth in the field sports all-around.
