Reinhard Wagner competed in four events at the 1904 St. Louis Olympics. He competed in the individual all-around (25th); the individual all-around, apparatus work (29th); the individual all-around, field sports (=22nd); and the team all-around, apparatus work and field sports (8th). Wagner represented the Davenport Turngemeinde of Davenport, Iowa. He was born in Germany but came to the US with his family in 1893, and was naturalized as a US citizen in 1899. Wagner worked as a construction foreman, especially on bridge projects throughout the Midwest and Southern US, which caused him to live in various states.
