Biography

Franjo Jurjević was a Croatian gymnast who represented Yugoslavia. Jurjević was a member of the Bjelovar Gymnastics Club in his hometown, and later graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb. Jurjević was a member of the Yugoslav team that competed at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. Yugoslavia finished in 19th place with Jurjević’s best individual performance coming in the horse vault where he finished in equal 25th place.

After the Olympics, Jurjević competed at the 1954 and 1958 World Gymnastics Championships. He was part of the Yugoslav teams that finished in 10th place and sixth place, respectively. Jurjević also took part at the 1955 and 1957 European Championships, finishing in the top 30 on both occasions.

Following his competitive career Jurjević was an official at the Novi Zagreb Gymnastics Club. He was also active with the Croatian and Yugoslav Gymnastics Federation, and active in the founding of the Croatian Olympic Committee in 1991.
