Biography

Arnold Jonke was a four-time Austrian Olympic rower participating in the 1988 Seoul, 1992 Barcelona, 1996 Atlanta, and 2000 Athens Summer Olympics. He competed in the single sculls in 1988 (eliminated in the repêchage round), the doubles sculls in 1992 and 1996 partnering Christoph Zerbst, winning the silver medal in 1992 and placing fifth in 1996. In 2000, he joined the quadruple sculls and came 11th.

Jonke enjoyed his greatest moments with Zerbst in the double sculls and they crowned their careers with the gold medal at the 1990 World Championships and a bronze the previous year.

Jonke became a performance diagnostician at the Maria Hilf Private Clinic in Klagenfurt, caring for triathletes, cyclists, and ice hockey players. The father of a grown son, he became passionate about building and piloting model airplanes and gliding.
