Biography

Albert “Pud” Kent was a rower for the Winnipeg Rowing Club and later the Toronto Argonaut Rowing Club. He competed at Henley several times with both clubs as a crew member in the fours and eights. At the 1912 Olympics, unfortunately the Canadian crew was drawn against the British Leander Club in round one, with Leander narrowly defeating the Toronto crew.

Pud Kent was probably even better known as a player and coach in Canadian rugby football. He played many seasons with the Winnipeg and later Argonaut teams, acting as team captain in the seasons prior to his retirement in 1902. Kent then became the club’s head coach until 1903. Eventually, he refereed Canadian rugby football well into the 1910s. Kent worked as a railway mail clerk and retired one year before his timely death due to ill health.
