Faustino Amiano started his rowing career with “Urki”, the Ur-Kirolak club in San Sebastian, in 1958. The following year he won the coxed pairs at the Spanish Championships, and that same year, competed at the European Championships in France. Amiano and Ur-Kirolak were national eights champions in 1960 and the crew was chosen to represent Spain at the Roma Olympics as there was no national quad at that time. Amiano was just 16 when he went to the Games. He retired in 1967 having helped his club win three State titles. Despite retiring, he maintained a close connection with “Urki” in many different capacities for a further 15 years.
