Biography

Alphonse Elichagaray was just 16-years-old when he coxed all three French boats at the 1912 Olympic rowing events while representing the Société Nautique de Bayonne, but none of them advanced to the second round. Alphonse’s brother Jean rowed in the French eights.

In 1915, Elichagaray joined the 170th Infantry Regiment to fight in World War I. In the rank of a sergeant he was killed near Reims.
