At the 1912 Olympics, Jean Elichagaray was a member of the eights crew of Société Nautique de Bayonne that lost to the eventual bronze winners from Germany in round one. Jean Elichagaray’s brother Alphonse Elichagaray coxed the French eights. A few months before the Olympics Jean married Mathilde Jeanne Arné, the sister of his teammate Jean Arné. Jean Elichagaray served in the 128th Infantry Regiment. While Alphonse died in World War I at the age of just 21, Jean lived to be 100-years-old.
