Biography

Jean-Pierre Souche represented France in two editions of the Olympic rowing tournament. In London in 1948, he was eliminated in the semi-finals of the coxed fours event by the upcoming gold medalists from the United States, alongside Jean-Paul Pieddeloup, Gaston Maquat, René Lotti, and Marcel Boigegrain. In 1952 in Helsinki he and René Guissart finished fifth in the coxless pairs. Souche’s greatest international rowing moment came in-between these two tournaments, however, at the 1951 European Championships. There, with Maquat, Jean-Jacques Guissart, and Pierre Blondiaux, he captured a bronze medal in the coxless fours. He retired from active competition shortly after the Helsinki Games.
