The trained textile merchant Fritz Bauer won a gold medal with the coxed fours at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. In 1928 at Amsterdam he came in fifth in the eights, and in 1932 at Los Angeles he was eliminated in the repêchage of the eights. In 1938, Bauer was European Champion with the coxed fours. He won eight national titles, including a West German one in 1947.
