At Los Angeles in 1932 Hans Maier won a silver medal in the coxless fours and was eliminated in the repêchage of the eights. Four years earlier he was fifth with the eights in Amsterdam. In 1936 at Berlin, he finally won gold in the coxed fours. He was German champion in 1928-31 in the eights, 1929-1931 and 1933 in the coxless fours, and 1936 in coxed fours, all with the Mannheim rowing club Amicitia 1876. He was killed in action in Tunisia in 1943 trying to hold the Mareth line against British troops and was officialy pronounced dead on 9 December 1952.
