Rower Antonella Corazza was a member of the Italy women’s coxed quadruple sculls that finished sixth at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. It was the first Italian women’s crew to compete at the Olympic Games. Antonella was originally scheduled to compete in the single sculls but, after her heat, she was moved by Italy’s technical coach, the Norwegian Thor Nielsen, to stroke for the quadruple sculls, after Paola Grizzetti was injured.
At the 1986 World Championships in Nottingham, Corazza was ninth in the single sculls, which was won by the future 1988 Olympic gold medal winner, Jutta Behrendt, of the German Democratic Republic. The following year, in København, Corazza was eighth in the double sculls, with the non-Olympian Monica Cremascoli, in a race won by Bulgaria. Corazza won two national titles, both in the single sculls, and both on Lake Piediluco, in 1984 and 1985.
