Francesco Faggi was part of a coxless four that was composed of four men from the same factory from the town of Mandello del Lario, on the shores of the Como Lake. The quartet had won the 1947 European Championships, making them a favorite for the 1948 Olympics. They won comfortably at Henley, and went on to retain their European title in 1949 and 1950. Returning for a second Olympic title in Helsinki, they were eliminated in the semi-finals, complaining that the Olympic rowing regatta was held on an inlet of the Baltic Sea.
