Biography

During the 1960s Dutch rower Erik Hartsuiker represented the Triton club in Utrecht, competing at two Olympic Games. In 1964 Hartsuiker was part of the coxed pairs team that won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics. The Dutch crew of Hartsuiker, Herman Rouwé, and Jan-Just Bos finished second in their heat to advance to the repêchage. After then winning their next heat, they came third in the final, less than half-a-second behind the French team. Four years later he returned to the Olympics, this time competing in the coxed fours at the Mexico City Games. This time the Dutch team won their opening heat to advance to the semi-finals. They then finished sixth to progress to the B Final where they came third to place ninth overall. Hartsuiker studied law in Utrecht, later becoming a notary.
