Biography

Swiss rower Peter Bolliger joined the Blauweiss Basel rowing club as a junior in 1952. After an intense training programme Bolliger competed in the coxless four at the 1962 World Championships where the Swiss crew finished fifth in the final. At the Swiss national championships he won 10 titles across multiple events from 1962 to 1970. During this time Bolliger and compatriot Nicolas Gobet rowed in the coxless pairs at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, finishing seventh. Four years later he had switched to the coxed fours for the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, where the Swiss team won the bronze medal. Bolliger also won bronze in the coxed fours at the European Championships in 1965 and 1969. Following his retirement from the sport he worked as the sporting director of Blauweiss Rowing Club for 13 years, along with holding several positions at the Swiss Rowing Association.
