Biography

Shelagh Donohoe rowed at the University of Massachusetts campus in Lowell, her hometown. In 1987 she helped her four win a bronze medal at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia. Donohoe rowed for the US National Team from 1989-92, competing at the World Championships in 1989-91, winning silver medals in the eight in 1990 and in the four in 1991.

Donohoe later went into coaching. She was an assistant coach at Boston University and Harvard from 1994-96, and coached the US Junior Women’s team in 1994. She coached at Northeastern University from 1996-2006, and was the 2004 New England Assistant Coach of the Year. Beginning in 2006, Donohoe was named head coach at the University of Rhode Island, earning Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year honors in 2007, 2008, and 2010. She was inducted into the University of Massachusetts, Lowell Athletics Hall of Fame in 1993, and the Lowell Catholic High School Athletics Hall of Fame.
